Please contact Mr Banwell’s office, and his staff can answer any questions you may have and can arrange for a quote and information regarding the procedure to be sent to you.

Are there any options?

There are two methods by which the operation may be performed:

1. Endoscopic (three to five short
incisions in the hair bearing scalp
allow access to the forehead which
will be elevated by a small
    instrument and associate video
    camera placed down through the
    small incisions.)

2.
The open more traditional technique     involves an incision across the top
    of the scalp which allows
mobilisation of the forehead and     subsequent elevation.

What type of anaesthetic will be used?

Mr Banwell recommends the surgery be performed under a general anaesthetic
undertaken by a specialist anaesthetist.

What are the risks?
There are both general and specific risks and Mr Banwell will talk to you in detail regarding these. General risks include bruising and swelling, bleeding, wound infection, problems with general anaesthetics, abnormal scarring and keloid scarring. Specific risks include altered or loss of sensation in the forehead or top of the scalp, numbness may be replaced by itching and this typically resolves within several months as the nerves heal, rarely permanent injury to nerves that control eyebrow movement resulting in asymmetry of the eyebrows, rarely both eyes may be swollen and shut for a few days, hairline may be slightly raised although the endoscopic technique procedure is less likely to cause this, while most deep wrinkles will look less obvious, some may be improved only slightly or not at all, rarely temporary hair loss may occur near the treated area, rarely hair thinning or permanent loss near the scar. The results of surgery may not meet your expectations and there may be the need for revisional surgery.

What costs are involved?
+ Surgical fees
+ Prothesis fees
+ Hospital fees
+ Specialist anaesthetist fee
