Paul Banwell is a Plastic & Cosmetic Surgeon based in the South East of England. Paul has developed an international reputation in the fields of cosmetic surgery, skin health and skin cancer and lectures worldwide on these subjects. He has published extensively and is a Visiting Professor of Plastic Surgery to Harvard Medical School. He has been listed in the Times Magazine as one of the UK's Top 100 Doctors (one of only 6 plastic surgeons) and is a familiar face in the National Media both on TV and in the Press.
Mr Banwell was educated in Tunbridge Wells, UK, before commencing his medical studies at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, London. During this time he also gained an honours degree (BSc) in the History of Medicine based at the Wellcome Institute. He graduated in 1992 (MB BS) in medicine and surgery, and continued his surgical training in London to become a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS) in 1996.
He trained in Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery in London (St. Georges & Roehampton), Oxford, Salisbury and Stoke Mandeville, and has passed the Plastic Surgery Specialist Fellowship - FRCS (Plast) - of the Royal College of Surgeons. He is now on the GMC Specialist Register for Plastic Surgery.
Paul also held a Senior Fellowship position at the famous Royal Marsden Hospital in London specialising in reconstruction following cancer of the skin and soft tissues, the breast and the head and neck region. Internationally, he gained further exposure in Australia as a British Association of Plastic Surgeons Travelling Fellow (in skin cancer, reconstructive microsurgery & cosmetic surgery).
Paul has developed an international reputation in the field of wound healing and scarring and lectures worldwide. He has an extensive research portfolio and has published two books and over 50 papers, book chapters and monographs. As well as being a Visiting Professor of Plastic Surgery to Harvard Medical School he has won multiple teaching accolades within Oxford University.
Paul specialises in all aspects of cosmetic surgery but is particularly well known for cosmetic breast surgery (breast augmentation, reduction and uplift), labiaplasty and mummy makeovers (tummy tucks, liposuction and body contouring). He has also pioneered some of the latest concepts in skin health and chemical peels and is an acknowledged expert in cosmeceuticals as well as being the Founder and Director of The Skin Institute UK and Chief Medical Director of Skin Associates Ltd in London. He is also the Head of The Melanoma and Skin Cancer Unit (MASCU) in East Grinstead which treats over 4000 skin cancer cases a year.
Paul is a full member of the British Association of Plastic and Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS).
In his leisure time, Paul collects Japanese swords and tsubas, and enjoys garden design, surfing, skiing, running and is passionate about modern art. He also used to play cricket to a high level (Sussex) and also represented Great Britain in martial arts.
