Undergoing areola reduction surgery is relatively straightforward and is suitable for anyone with excess areola skin.
It’s quite common to combine areola reduction surgery with procedures such as breast augmentation, a breast lift or inverted nipple correction surgery. The areola reduction procedure can also be a standalone treatment.
Your procedure should take around an hour and can be performed under local or general anaesthetic. You shouldn’t need to stay in the hospital overnight and can expect minimal downtime and disruption to your daily life.
During the procedure, Mr Banwell will make a circular incision to remove an area of the pigmented skin surrounding your nipple. Absorbable stitches will be used to bring the breast tissue together along with a permanent stitch that prevents the diameter of your areola from increasing in the future.

You will need several weeks to fully heal from areola reduction surgery. The recovery period will involve several stages including some initial ruckling of the skin as well as swelling and numbness.
Most physical activities can be fully resumed within 4 weeks post-surgery.
