The Viveve radiofrequency treatment is considered a safe and effective procedure. The treatment is directed by Mr Banwell but performed by one of his experienced, highly-trained female nurses. The radiofrequency energy employed in the treatment has been used for over a decade to treat the delicate skin on the face, neck and hands but this application is an exciting advance in women’s health. Numerous clinical trials by the manufacturers of the machine (Viveve Medical) have demonstrated the safety of the Viveve treatment.

The beauty of vaginal radiofrequency treatment is that the side effects are typically minimal and quickly resolve. They may include redness in the treated area, localised swelling, occasional vaginal bleeding and slight abdominal discomfort.

Results may vary from patient to patient and whilst some patients will report feeling a difference immediately, new collagen (neocollagenesis) takes about three months to develop. This is usually associated with improved sensation during intercourse and benefits in stress incontinence. Please note that this technique has many advocates globally and many hundreds of  patients who have claimed significant benefits. However, we believe that on-going scientific studies are required  to support these exciting benefits for women’s sexual health.

If you are a lady suffering from vaginal laxity or/and urinary stress incontinence following childbirth, non-surgical vaginal radiofrequency treatment could be right for you. However, this treatment is contra-indicated for those patients with either an implantable pacemaker or a Cardioverter/Defibrillator, or indeed any other implantable device. It is also recommended that a recent cervical screening test (smear test) is performed prior to the procedure.
