Inverted Nipple Correction is a relatively straightforward procedure that is available in Brighton through acclaimed cosmetic surgeon Paul Banwell.
The surgery is one that can have a huge impact, especially psychologically.
Many women live with inverted nipples for many years and, while not a direct health concern, it is a condition that can greatly impact self esteem and confidence and so impinge in to all aspects of life.
Surgery to correct inversion of the nipples is not expensive – in Brighton it can cost under £1,000 including surgeon and hospital fees. It is also not a procedure that comes with a lengthy recovery period or demands weeks off work.
The decision to have inverted nipples corrected can have huge immediate benefits. It is a genuine delight to speak to women post surgery and see just how major a change this had had to their psyche, how their self-esteem has been boosted.
The surgery will be suitable for a high percentage of those who have inverted nipples, a condition that often becomes apparent either around puberty or following pregnancies (often after a few pregnancies).
At a consultation, a surgeon would ascertain your suitability, looking at your medical history and also whether a procedure can produce the results you are looking for.
It would be usual to have first tried non surgical methods for correction of inverted nipples, for instance nippelette. If you were unaware that non surgical options existed, please take the time to research their potential suitability in your case.
The surgery is often not suitable for anyone planning further pregnancies as it involves cutting the breast milk ducts. Other surgical approaches may be available but this will always be a consideration to factor in.
As with any cosmetic procedure, even one as relatively straightforward as a treatment for an inverted nipple or nipples, a thorough consultation at a Brighton clinic would always be applicable.
There is more than one procedure available, most of which involve the cutting of the milk ducts.
Usually, two incisions are made at the base of the nipple, the ducts cut and the nipple everted and suspended into position.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic and Mr Bamwell likes to also administer an anaesthetic cream – patients can choose general anaesthetic if they prefer. The surgery takes around an hour and a half and the most uncomfortable part is the initial injection of local anaesthetic.
Patients can typically return home later the same day; this is not a procedure that places huge demands upon the body or leads to lengthy recovery.
A protective sponge dressing will remain in place for a week and the stitches are removed at around the two-week mark.
It is advised to take it easy for a while, but recovery is usually quick and without issue. It may be up to eight weeks until you can engage in strenuous exercise – your surgeon will provide you with full recovery details.
There can be mild pain post surgery as it settles down, this can be relieved with standard over-the-counter pain killers.
The treatment cost is made up of the surgeon fee and also the hospital fee – as such it can vary depending on the facility chosen.
In Brighton, Mr Banwell operates from the wonderful Brighton Nuffield on Warren Road, a modern private hospital with state of the art facilities and superb verified, independent reviews.
The only other expense to consider is anaesthetic, for any patient choosing genera there is an additional cost for the services of a professional anaesthetist.
A fully inclusive, bespoke quote would be provided at a consultation.
