Labial puff, a cosmetic procedure that can give a more youthful look to the labia majora or outer lips of the vaginal area, is available through renowned surgeon Paul Banwell.
Also known as a labia fat transfer, the process is increasingly popular and is an option for many who want to add volume and improve contouring through female genital cosmetic surgery.
The surgery has little downtime and can typically be carried out as quick day patient appointment. Labial puff greatly improves aesthetic appearance, but also self-confidence and self-esteem by enhancing what was an area for concern.
Labial puff is a form of fat transfer, whereby fat is taken from a graft site on the body and used to volume the target area.
The fat is usually taken from either the abdomen or outer thigh and then injected into the outer labia with microcannula.
The process is relatively straightforward for a top cosmetic surgeon such as Paul Banwell – the relative experience of the surgeon is important so choose wisely.
A surgeon as renowned as Paul Banwell would, for instance, tend to over correct, this is the knowledge that results will then settle down and so this over correction settles down to then leave the perfect, desired result.
A less experienced surgeon might make the initial correction too slight, and then the final results, as swelling settles down, would actually be underwhelming.
That is the risk with this sort of vaginal rejuvenation – not that there will be infection or a medical concern, more that the results by a lesser surgeon simply won’t provide the change sought.
Many women are increasingly considering vaginal rejuvenation procedures for the labia majora and labia minora.
There is unlikely to be a medical need for labial puff, instead it is sought by those who have a desire to improve the appearance of this intimate area, perhaps to remove signs of ageing.
It is popular because it delivers noticeable results almost immediately, and, unlike temporary measures used by some such as fillers, the results can be close to permanent.
Unlike with a non-surgical dermal filler such as desirable there is no need for repeat labia procedures every six months.
For anyone who wants stunning results, a more youthful labia majora then the vaginal rejuvenation can be beneficial.
Usually performed as a day case and under general anaesthetic, the fat graft procedure to enhance the labia majora is straightforward.
There are essentially two stages – the grafting and processing of the fat and then the insertion of this fat into the outer lips region.
The fat is harvested into syringes and then cleansed and prepared.
Only a small amount can be injected at a time, but for subtle adjustments to create a labial puff this is not a concern.
The vaginal rejuvenation really begins a stage earlier with the detailed consultation.
The consultation is always a vital step, this the chance for the prospective patient to outline their hopes for surgery and the results they are seeking.
It is also an opportunity to ensure they feel comfortable with the surgeon and have found someone with the level of qualification and experience they are looking for.
After the consultation, the prospective patient should be given a thorough, full quote and then given the time to consider this without obligation.
Labial puff, as with other fat transfer procedures is considered a safe process where carried out via a trained professional surgeon.
There are rare, but potential risks associated with all surgery, these including wound infection and problems with general anaesthetic rather than local anaesthetic.
Some degree of swelling and bruising is common, and there can be a short term loss of sensation in the immediate area.
Specific risks for this form of gynaecology are that the results are not even, or that they are not as visible as desired – as mentioned, this is why a surgeon such as Paul Banwell would tend towards an initial over correction, which then naturally settles down.
The grafted fat need to develop a new blood supply in the recipient site, so there is always a slight risk that the results fail to last and a repeat procedure is required.
The likelihood of this would be discussed at a consultation.
A fat graft operation to perform labia majora augmentation is not one with a lengthy recovery period.
Typically, a short time may be required off work – between one and seven days. There will be a need to take it a little easy and exercise, especially strenuous exercise will need to be avoided.
Any pain can typically be managed with standard over the counter painkillers.
For this form of treatment, there are a few costs that make top the final fee.
There is the surgeon fee, in this case Paul Banwell, the hospital fee – this will vary depending on where you chose to have the surgery – and then there is a fee for the specialist services of the anaesthetist.
Paul Banwell works across multiple clinics, including the Banwell Clinic in East Grinstead, the Brighton Nuffield and further wonderful Nuffield facilities in Tunbridge Wells and Haywards Heath.
Mr Banwell also has a clinic in London’s famous Harley Street – this another option for the labial puff surgery.
The specific cost would vary depending on the nature of the surgery and the location – full details would be provided at consultation, and the costs at the various clinics could also be provided for comparison.
At the time of writing, prices start from around £3,000. When compared to the need for repeated treatments with filler injections such as desirable, this is likely to be highly competitive.

I was kept well informed and thought it was excellent to see Mr Banwell before surgery, during recovery and afterwards to hear all went well. It was something that caused me discomfort and sensitivity and now I feel much happier not only with the appearance but more importantly it is much more comfortable for me. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Mr Banwell to my friends, he is truly professional yet has a nice relaxed manner which puts you at ease.
Mr Banwell had by far the best experience and training for the procedure I needed; I was thrilled with the results. I was very pleased with everything. I was looked after by an amazing nurse and the results definitely made it worthwhile.
I realised initially that surgery was my only option. Initially hesitant about surgery I accepted Mr Banwell’s advice and counselling. I am impressed with his expertise surgically combined with his caring attitude to patients like me. I would recommend him highly without any hesitation. He inspires confidence.
During the time I have been in the care of Paul and the team I have been treated extremely well and very professionally, I could not have asked for better care. Paul was extremely caring and considerate throughout this time and has put me at ease during any procedures that I have had carried out. I trust his judgement completely and recommended Paul to a close family member who had a similar problem.
I would have no hesitation recommending Mr Banwell.
I was referred to Mr Paul Banwell in February 2010 when I was diagnosed with an advanced melanoma in the lymph nodes in my left groin. At my consultation he explained in layman’s terms my diagnosis and all details regarding the operation I needed. Mr Banwell operated on 27th February 2010. The operation was a complete success – he has removed all the cancer as subsequent scans have proven. I then spent seven days recuperating in the McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead under Mr Banwell’s and his specialised teams care. They were all wonderful. Mr Banwell was at my bedside every morning to check my progress. His kindness and caring knew no bounds. He made all my fears and anxieties groundless and replaced them with optimism for a great feature and my aftercare was first class. I would recommend this highly professional, dedicated, humane family man to all who need any medical intervention. He is the best. How do you thank a man who gives you your life back? There are no adequate words.
