Nipple reduction surgery is designed to achieve a more proportionate appearance of the areola in relation to the breast. The procedure involves removing a circular portion of the outer brown area of the areola before drawing in the surrounding skin to encircle the remaining areola.
Absorbable sutures are placed inside the areola to decrease its diameter, and in most instances, a permanent suture is deeply embedded in the breast tissue to prevent post-surgical widening of the areola.
